Magic: The Gathering Event for beginners by University Klagenfurt / the Masters programme Game Studies and Engineering and their students in cooperation with Hive Games.
Attendance is free of charge, registration is not required.
Take your first steps into Magic: The Gathering with Magic Academy! During these two events you will be able to learn the basics of gameplay, dive into the guidelines of deckbuilding and play your first tournaments. Ready to ignite your spark and enter the Multiverse?

Tuesday, 14 Jan. 2025: Learn to Play
The first Magic Academy event is the Learn to Play event, an introductory guide to the rules and cards of the game. Over the course of the event, you’ll learn through playing casual games of Magic with beginner-friendly cards, all with some helpful Magic experts ready to assist you.
Tuesday, 21 Jan. 2025: Deckbuilding
You’ve learned how to play a Magic deck, now it’s time to build one! Deck Building events teach you to construct a deck of your own card pool or from the contents of Play Boosters. You’ll learn how to pick a strategy, the basics of mana, and which format suits you best.
This event is recommended for players who have attended a Learn to Play event or already understand the basics of gameplay.
No registration required – just come and play along!
For the full Magic Academy experience, simply follow this “curriculum” – you’ll be perfectly prepared to enter the tournament scene as a Magic player!
Of course, nobody is obliged to attend all events – everyone can attend as many or as few events as they like. If you don’t want to attend as a player, spectators are warmly welcome!
